About Us

Parkside Day School is a celebration and admiration of young children. The early childhood years are a period of dynamic and extraordinary development. The young child is shaping and developing his mind and body, building his brain architecture and constructing knowledge through play. We whole-heartedly believe that building strong, positive and healthy relationships based on trust is the foundation that will develop caring, competent individuals and creative, independent thinkers.

Relationship-based Practice

Research-based approach that has its origins in the work of Lev Vygotsky, child psychologist

  • Trusting, respectful, supportive relationships between children and adults build healthy and happy children
  • Children and teachers converse, share experiences and recognize that language and conversations are central
  • Support from caring teachers in a rich learning environment will allow children to experiment, make decisions, take risks, learn from their mistakes and solve problems
  • Each child’s individual needs and interests are recognized to offer meaningful and nurturing interactions
  • Nurturing bonds instill empathy, embrace differences and create social responsibility
  • Practices that empower children to resolve differences with others in cooperative and constructive ways
  • Low student-to-teacher ratio fosters deep relationship-building opportunities to increase social emotional intelligence and competence
